The IRS rewards us for our 1099 risk taking initiative with a long list
of allowable business expenses which are above the line deductible.
So any tax comparison would have to be based on net income after
expenses, because full time employees cannot deduct any work-related
expenses in most cases. When a self-employed person earns $75,000, I'd
expect that there would be SIGNIFICANT expenses related to gaining that
income, vs. a full timer's 75K being fully taxable.
Of course, that still does not make it worth anyone's time to accept 10
buck gigs!
