Oh - and jonathan, your notes on how to build a slick cube server were
well received here. Thanks for your colorful creativity. (By the way,
my initial comments on screaming LAMP servers on a PI was a joke. :) )
And - pswebcode guy ("Be silent and step away") - chill, man. Put away
your light saber, this isn't a duel. You're taking this a little too
personally.
In fact, I've emailed a few off of this list, making non-profit contacts
that will happily take them in after we attempt to sell a few. Donation
is definitely in store for most of these boxes, we do a *lot* of
pro-bono work over here @ Reconstrukt.
In fact, this whole thing is ridiculous! The intention wasn't to take
up more than a single email's worth of list space - this is why I told
people to email me "off list". ...I think the moaning and groaning from
the dissenting list members took up more space than our so-called (in
pswebcode's words) "direct marketing" did.

I think this is all just a big miscommunication. I believe Mr. Knight
has a
good intention and is genuinely trying to offer all of us a good deal

boxes that can be very useful as Linux server.
Now that we establishes that the price of $250 is not a good deal,
perhaps
Mr. Knight can reevaluate the price and offer us the good deal he has
originally intended. Perhaps someone more familiar with the market
price
can tell us what a good price would be.
I am sure some of us here can use a good test system. Personally, I do
not
mind if members try to share the wealth and offer good deals to other
members. Of couse we are only talking about items related to LAMP.

I hate to thread-crap, but this last email really capped it for me :)
If someone on this list knows enough to run Linux and tune it, they also
know that they can buy something like this:

and put in a $50 closeout drive, along with $20 stick of closeout RAM,
and end up with something faster, with more storage, and a longer shelf
life. And it also looks pretty good. And silent.
The bottom line is that your boxes are not worth $250. They are worth a
lot less, if anything at all.
As previously suggested: go to eBay and sell them to the
non-able-to-tune-linux suckers there. Enough of this. Thanks.
