I'll answer my own question here: I was just looking at some obscure
legacy
typo whose existence was long lost in time and only the most equally
obscure
circumstances brought it to the fore.

special session function called:
session_startI()
...instead of the regular: session_start()
May have been introduced in PHP 5?
And if you know about it,
what is the intended purpose.
